Description: |
This position is responsible for undergoing training and maintaining notes related to coding functions. To apply knowledge of CPT/ICD9 coding to medical charts processed by company for accurate billing and maximum reimbursement. This is an hourly position. This position reports to the Director of Coding.

Duties: |
PROFESSIONAL:
•Ability to reference and cross reference CPT/ICD9 coding books.
•Good communication skills.
•Understands medical terminology, human anatomy, and the disease process.

•Works effectively with minimal supervision.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Other appropriate tasks as assigned.
•Pairs CPT/ICD9 codes for accurate billing and maximum reimbursement.
•Participates in audit or work showing strengths and improvements needed. Audit will be used as a measurement for employee’s evaluation.
•Participates in educational training to stay current with coding requirements as set by Department and/or Company.
•Processes and maintains any other job task(s) or files necessary for coding.
•Refers to and maintains Policy and Procedural Manual to ensure each job transaction is processed with the utmost efficiency and speed as set by the Company.
•Reliable and punctual by maintaining a good attendance record and arriving at work and returning from lunch and breaks on time.
•Reports any wrong doing to appropriate person(s) as set by Company’s grievance policy.
•Team player being supportive of Department and Company goals and policies.

Qualifications: |
Must be nationally certified (AHIMA or AAPC) with 1 to 3 years experience, preferably in Emergency Department coding. Demonstrate a high level of coding skills. Possess extensive knowledge of medical terminology, the human disease process, anatomy and physiology. Exhibit time management, organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Maintain strong skills in diplomacy, professionalism and trustworthiness. Have working knowledge of PC operations and computer software applications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Lift at least 20 lbs.
•Standing, sitting, stooping, bending and walking.
